Power Over Pain is the UK's first primary-care–based clinic designed to help people living with chronic pain move from dependency and distress toward understanding, confidence, and lasting self-management.
Delivered over six weekly group sessions by a multidisciplinary team, the programme integrates pain neuroscience, biopsychosocial medicine, psychology, physiology, philosophy, and physiotherapy into a carefully sequenced curriculum that combines scientific explanation, lived experience, and practical skills.
Now in its second year and ninth cohort, the clinic has supported around 200 patients, with outcomes including a 35% reduction in opioid use and a 50% improvement in confidence on the Pain Self-Efficacy Questionnaire.
The Owl Centre Charity was founded in 2020 as the charitable branch of The Owl Centre Ltd. The charity's mission is to provide psycho-education, training, specialist information, and web-based resources for people with additional needs or differences such as autism or ADHD, as well as support for their families.
The Owl Centre Charity's workforce includes speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, psychotherapists, autism advisory teachers, and medical expertise from paediatricians and psychiatrists, all committed to delivering bespoke programmes tailored to each individual's needs.
Power Over Pain is proud to be delivered under the charity's umbrella, sharing its core belief that the right information and support can transform lives.
Ben Sims is a Kent-based physiotherapist and the founder of Power Over Pain. Recognising the limitations of medication-led approaches to chronic pain, Ben developed the programme as a structured, evidence-based alternative, one that treats pain as a whole-person experience shaped by trauma, stress, beliefs, relationships, and bodily processes.
Drawing on his clinical background and a commitment to patient empowerment, Ben built a model in which clinicians act as mentors rather than prescribers, and patients become active partners in their own recovery. Power Over Pain is the result of that vision.
